They were home. They were home. Not Zelien, not a ship or a jungle or anywhere else, but really, truly, home. Kaede stared up at the high rise of Sternbild as the sun was creeping over and around the edges of buildings, staring there in dirty clothing that unfortunately had blood stains, her tonfa at her side and her backpack on, somewhere on the Gold level and looking over the city.
They were home.
Kaede had tears in her eyes as the sun rose, and she let herself cry while she smiled, moving and sitting on the edge of the roof where they had been dropped, watching the sun rise.
They were home. It had worked. She looked up to the last of the stars on the horizon and wondered where everyone else was. Was Chekov back on his spaceship somewhere beyond any star she could see? Was Jack waking up in his bed and ready to go do something he thought was evil, or was he with Feferi, or the other way around? What about Greed? Or Hibari?
...What about her family? "...please be here, Dad. Ivan-niisan. Barnaby." Just a whisper towards the sunrise. Things like getting home, trying to find out how much time has passed, those sorts of things? They could wait... just a little bit longer.
They were home.
